Form - Narrative Structures

A narrative in a advert consists off characters, settings, conflicts and resolutions. There are many ways to tell a story in an advert, one way to tell a story is a linear advert this means the story is told with a beginning middle and end. Whereas a non linear advert doesnt have a struture it can start end to beginning . Another way to tell a story in an advert is an open ended advert, this is where a series of adverts fit together telling a story and giving different endings. A Closed advert is where the story ends and it doesnt carry on in the next advert the narrative ends in that advert.

Tsvetan Todorov-Equilibrium.
This is where all stories start in equilibruim state, which then has a problem setting off a chain of events then they resolve it at the end.

The BT adverts are an example of open ended adverts , this is because in each advert they tell a story and the next advert they make carries it on.
